Aongatete Forest Project working bee
August 21, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
Aongatete Forest Project, which is restoring 500 hectares of native forest in the Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park, between Tauranga and Katikati. The project is administered by the Aongatete Forest Restoration Trust in partnership with Forest and Bird.
The aim of the project is to restore the wildlife and plant life to a part of the Park, to demonstrate the value that wide spread pest control could deliver for the region.
What we do:
Maintaining bait lines (clearing bush, removing baiting debris, installing bait stations).
Laying baits (for rats and possums).
Checking stoat, possum and cat traps – carcass removal and laying baits.
Bio-diversity monitoring in general (aquatic and terrestrial, flora and fauna).
Rare plant / tree species protection.
Field camera support and video interpretation.
Photography and videography.
Volunteer training – mountain safety, OH&S, handling traps and toxins.
We also welcome volunteers for administrative, fundraising and non-field work.
We also share a delicious morning tea!
